Link Expiration - ClickSpot

Link Expiration

Set expiration dates on your short links to automatically disable them after a specific time, perfect for limited-time offers, event registrations, or temporary access links.

Why Use Link Expiration?

Expiring links are useful when you want to:

  • Run limited-time promotions - Automatically disable promo codes after the sale ends
  • Control access to time-sensitive content - Share documents that should only be accessible for a period
  • Manage event registrations - Close registration links after the deadline
  • Improve security - Ensure temporary access links don't remain active indefinitely

Setting an Expiration Date

  1. Create a new link or edit an existing one
  2. Click the Expiration button in the form
  3. Set the expiration date and time
  4. Optionally set an expiration URL for redirect
  5. Click Save in the popover, then save the link

What Happens When a Link Expires

When a link expires:

  • By default, visitors see a "Link Expired" message
  • If you set an Expiration URL, visitors are redirected there instead
  • All historical analytics data is preserved
  • You can reactivate the link by setting a new expiration date or removing the expiration

Expiration URL (Optional)

Instead of showing an error page, you can redirect expired link visitors to another URL. This is useful for:

  • Redirecting to a "Sale ended" landing page
  • Pointing visitors to your homepage or a current offer
  • Showing a "Registration closed" message on your own site

Set the expiration URL in the same section where you configure the expiration date.

Reactivating an Expired Link

  1. Click on the expired link to edit it
  2. Either set a new future expiration date, or toggle expiration off entirely
  3. Save your changes
  4. The link is immediately active again

Best Practices

  • Set expiration during creation - It's easy to forget to add expiration later
  • Use timezone-aware times - Expiration times use your workspace timezone setting
  • Plan for buffer time - Set expiration slightly after your actual deadline to avoid cutting off last-minute visitors
  • Archive old expired links - Keep your workspace clean by archiving links you won't reactivate
