Password-Protected Links - ClickSpot

Password-Protected Links

Add an extra layer of security to your short links by requiring visitors to enter a password before being redirected to your destination.

When to Use Password Protection

Password-protected links are ideal for:

  • Private content sharing - Share documents or pages with specific people
  • Exclusive offers - Create VIP-only promotion links
  • Client portals - Provide secure access to client-specific resources
  • Internal resources - Share company links that shouldn't be publicly accessible

Adding Password Protection

  1. Create a new link or edit an existing one
  2. Click the Password button in the form
  3. Enter a password in the popover
  4. Click Save in the popover, then save the link

How It Works for Visitors

When someone clicks a password-protected link:

  1. They see a password entry page
  2. They enter the password you set
  3. If correct, they're redirected to the destination
  4. If incorrect, they can try again

Managing Passwords

Changing a Password

  1. Edit the link
  2. Enter the new password in the password field
  3. Save changes

The new password takes effect immediately. Anyone with the old password will need the new one.

Removing Password Protection

  1. Edit the link
  2. Toggle Require password off
  3. Save changes

The link becomes publicly accessible immediately.

Password Best Practices

  • Use unique passwords - Don't reuse passwords across multiple links
  • Share passwords securely - Send passwords through a separate channel from the link
  • Keep passwords simple but not guessable - Users need to type these, so balance security with usability
  • Rotate passwords periodically - For long-term protected content, update passwords regularly

Analytics for Protected Links

Clicks are recorded when visitors successfully enter the password and get redirected. Password page views and failed attempts are not tracked.
