Member Roles & Permissions
ClickSpot uses a simple role system with two roles: Owner and Member. This keeps permissions straightforward while giving you control over who can manage your workspace.
Available Roles
Each workspace has two roles:
- Owner - Full control, including billing and workspace deletion
- Member - Can create and manage links, view analytics

Role Details
Owner
The workspace creator is automatically an owner. Owners have complete control:
- All permissions that members have
- Invite and remove team members
- Change member roles (promote to Owner or demote to Member)
- Manage billing and payment methods
- Configure workspace settings (name, color, URL slug)
- Delete the workspace
A workspace can have multiple owners. The last remaining owner cannot be removed or demoted to ensure someone always has full control.
Member
Members are full collaborators who can work with links and analytics:
- Create, edit, and delete short links
- View and analyze click data for all workspace links
- Add and manage custom domains
- Create and apply tags to organize links
- Use UTM templates
- Set up A/B tests and smart routing
Members cannot manage other users, access billing, or delete the workspace.
Changing Roles
Owners can change roles for any member:
- Go to Members in the sidebar
- Find the member in the Team Members table
- Use the role dropdown to select Owner or Member
Note: You cannot demote the last remaining owner. Add another owner first if you want to step down.
Best Practices
- Keep ownership with someone responsible for billing - The owner manages payment methods and receives invoices
- Add trusted team members - Members have full access to create and modify links
- Use separate workspaces for different clients - This keeps data isolated and access controlled
